Chana dal also known as Bangal gram  is very delicious Indian dal recipe prepared with required amount of spices. This dal preparation needs some planning as this dal needs to soak 2 to 3 hours before cooking. Here in this Chana dal recipe is prepared with Indian Cottage Cheese or Paneer and Potatoes which gives some extra taste to it as compared to other versions of Chana Dal recipes. Necessary ingredients Required To Prepare Chana Dal-Paneer Recipe:

Chana dal 1 cup , Paneer cubes , Potato cut into cubes 2 medium, Onion chopped 1 large , Tomato chopped 1 large, Panch-phoron 1 tsp,
Dry chili 1,
Whole garam masala, Salt as per taste, Mustard oil 1 tbsp, Coriander powder 1 tsp, Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp, Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp, Water as per requirement of dal consistency.
Step By Step Method Of Preparation of Chana Dal-Paneer Recipe:

Step One: Soak Chana Dal or Bengal gram for 2 hours or minimum 40 minutes.

Step Two: Now take some Paneer cubes and Potato cubes and apply some salt and turmeric into it.

Step Three: Now add some oil into a pan (Iron or Non-stick pan preferred) and stir fry the Paneer until golden. Similarly fry the potatoes also until golden. Keep them aside into a plate.

Step Four: Now add the soaked dal into a cooker. Add some whole garam masala and salt as well.

Step Five: Now add fried paneer and potatoes as well. Cooked dal until 3 to 4 whistle.

Step Six: As dal has cooked we need to prepare the tempering. For this we need chopped Onion and Tomatoes.

Step Seven: Add mustard oil into a pan. Let the oil heat up in medium flame.

Step Eight: Add Panch-phoron (five spices) one tsp and dry chili one.
Let it get brown but be careful so that it can't get burnt.

Step Nine: Now add chopped Onion and fry it until brown in color.

Step Ten: As Onions get brown add chopped Tomatoes and saute for a minute.

Step Eleven: Add Turmeric powder and Coriander powder and mix it very nicely. Cook until oil gets separated from the spices.

Step Twelve: Now add the boiled dal into it and mix nicely. Adjust the dal consistency by adding water into it. Give it a nice boil.

Step Thirteen: Now finally add some garam masala powder and switch off the flame.

Serve hot with steamed rice or chapati.


NB: While boiling the dal be careful that dal is not overcooked. If dal is soaked properly it may take 2 whistle while if it is not soaked properly it may take more time.
