Fish curry with Torai or Jika (in assamese language) is a very delicious and simple recipe. This recipe can be cooked with very less amount of ingredients and it comes out really very delicious. Assamese cuisine and recipes are known for it's taste which can be prepared with very less amount of spices. This fish recipe is prepared with vegetables like fish and very less amount of ripe papaya. Papaya gives little sweetness to our gravy which enhances the taste of this recipe. Fish here I have used is river fresh Rohu fish.

Necessary Ingredients Required To Prepare Fish Curry with Torai:


Torai 2 large,
Papaya(ripe) 1 small piece,
Coriander powder 1 tsp,
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp,
Salt as per taste,
Onion 1 medium chopped,
soaked dal 1 or 2 tbsp,
Mustard oil 4 tbsp,
Fish pieces 3 to 4 pieces.

Step By Step Method Of Preparation Of Fish Curry With Torai Recipe: 


Step One: Wash the fish properly and apply salt and turmeric to it. On the other hand take two medium or large sized Torai and peel it nicely and cut it into small pieces. Likewise peel 1 piece of ripe papaya also cut it into very small pieces. Into a small bowl soak 2 tbsp of Moong and Masoor dal.

Step Two: Now heat a pan and add mustard oil into it and fry the fish pieces until it is golden in color. Make sure to fry it in both the sides. As the fish becomes brown from both the sides keep this aside.

Step Three: In the remaining oil add chopped onion and fry until onion turns into golden in color.

Step Four: Now add all the vegetables into it and mix nicely. Add soaked dal as well. The reason behind adding little soaked dal is to get the thickness of the gravy.

Step Five: Now it's time to add salt, turmeric powder and coriander powder and mix it very nicely.

Step Six: Now close the lid and put the flame in medium heat and cook for 6 to 7 minutes.

Step Seven: After 7 minutes it can be seen that Torai becomes soft now mix again nicely and cook for another 3 minutes in closed lid.

Step Eight: Now add 1 or 2 cups of water and let the water comes to a boil.

Step Nine: As the water comes to a boil add fries fish pieces into the gravy and mix once again. Close the lid cook for 5 to 7 minutes in low flame.

Step Ten: After 5 to 7 minutes fish becomes very soft and juicy. And this is the point where we have to switch off the flame. Our fish curry is ready.

Serve it hot with steamed rice. Serve your guest this delicious fish curry.
